SUN BEAR 56/9 DUO HUMBUCKER/P90 SET
This mix of Humbucker and soapbar P90 where originally envisaged for one of our in house guitars (namely a beautiful Patrick James Eggle Macon Jr) but before we had the chance to actually install them, a conversation with another fantastic U.K Guitar Builder; Neil Ivison of Ivison Guitars made it obvious that they had to go to him for some serious testing in his Hurricane model. Here’s his take on this set:
“I have to say, I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by these pickups!! They sound like vintage units! (The) covers (are) aged beautifully. The P90 has that wonderful ‘plumby’ tone with glassy high mids and the PAF just sounds like the real deal, meaty but lots of high end, the classic ‘Tele on Steroids’ Burst tone! You’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more of these in my builds!”
We were absolutely thrilled with this feedback and are privileged to be providing pickups for Ivison Guitars. We hope you will feel the same when you try these in your favourite instrument.
BRIDGE 59 SBPAF AIV +/- 8.4K: A wonderfully balanced mix of power and dynamics characterise this take on a middle-output PAF-style humbucker. It has the clear, faintly strident punch to take on heavy handed rock riffs but a softer touch with coax out all manner of subtle textures.
NECK 56 SB90 Soapbar AIII +/- 7.4K: Every bit the neck p90 tone we all love so much and, like the 59 PAF its paired with, employing vintage low carbon steel screws, rough-cast magnets and 42guage plain enamel wire. Creamy, vocal midrange warm with a clear, open high end clarity.
This set is offered as standard with two-conductor vintage braid wiring. A thin nickel cover that is missing the copper plating layer so often found in modern pickups is standard on the humbucker, while the p90 is supplied with plastic cover in cream, bone or black. If you would prefer open bobbins (black, double white, zebra etc) custom covers, nickel p90 cover, four-conductor wiring or virtually any other tweak please do get in touch; various contact options are available here.
Pickups are generally supplied to customer specification in 7 - 10 days although we do carry some in stock so please give us a call if you wish to order.
